About the App

The People of Action (POA) Editor is a web application to edit and modify photos, particularly for the Rotary International #PeopleOfAction Campaign. The app is designed to work through your internet browser on your desktop or mobile device.

After trying to edit a photo on the RI Brand Center with my phone and being frustrated with the way it worked, I decided to develop a website that would be easy for myself. After sharing the app with my Rotary District Team Leaders and getting their feedback I decided to release it to all Rotarians.

The POA Photos app works on all mobile and desktop devices that have Chrome, Firefox, Safari, MS Edge, or Opera browsers.

In-app browsers typically are smaller, stripped back, versions of full browsers.

They typically block downloading of images and block certain website code from loading. The ‘browsers’ are actually just a WebView window that provides limited browsing functionality, as a sub-process of the app that opened it.

Nothing. The app is free to use.

The app is designed to work within your browser. The app works in both portrait and landscape modes. Use your own judgment on how it works best for you.

No sorry, the app requires an internet connection to download the templates and other features.

Pictures opened with the app stay on your device and your browser cache. Users pictures are not uploaded or saved to our servers.

No, the app is designed to be used inside your internet browser and currently does not have the ability to be downloaded to your device.

That does not mean there is not a future for a downloadable app.

A web application or Rich Internet Applications is a web site that does more than displaying content, it has a business logic. It’s intended for user interactions, performing actual business functions. Compared to websites, i.e. blogs and news sites, web apps provide a richer user experience.

A native mobile app is one that is installed directly on the smartphone and can work, in most cases, with no internet connectivity depending on the nature of the app. A web app works via a web browser on the smartphone but requires either a cell signal or wi-fi to function and may access specific hardware like GPS.

Why develop something that already exists on the RI website?

After struggling to use the RI People of Action editor on my mobile phone at a conference, I decided to develop an app for myself. I shared the app with my Rotary District and they liked how easy it was to use, both on mobile and desktop. Therefore, I have thought it would be beneficial to all Rotarians and wanted to share it with all.
